Don’t bother – Neutrogena Visibly Clear Pink Grapefruit Daily Scrub 150ml

I would just like to say that here at Skin Scrubs I try to review products and ranges from different price points. I realise that not everyone will spend as much money as I do on Molton Brown etc. so I try to vary what I review. In the same vain I also have a ‘ceiling’ of how much I’m wiling to spend on something so I doubt you will ever see a body scrub or face wash on here that would cost £50+. If you do it means I’ve won the lottery!

I’ve used Neutrogena off and on for over 15 years now sometimes their stuff is great other times it’s not. I was quite looking forward to using this scrub, I knew it wasn’t going to be like using Aesop but I did think it would be a pleasant experience. Boy was I wrong! James tried it first, came out of the bathroom and shook his head. He mumbled something about it being useless and that there weren’t any scrubbing grains. I did the hand over the ears not listening la la la thing and went off to wash my face. Firstly, when you open that cap the grapefruit smell is really zingy and refreshing. I squirted a blob in my hand added a bit of water and rubbed it round my face only to feel no micro-beads as promised. It doesn’t even lather up it just turns white and stays in gel form. I washed my face quite vigorously to see if the beads would get into action and that didn’t happend either. The lovely pink grapefruit scent slowly turned into a very fake almost chlorine like smell so I couldn’t wait to get this off my face. The most annoying thing was that my skin didn’t even feel clean. I used my Aesop toner afterwards to see if there would be any dirt on the pad and sure enough there was! What a shame I was looking forward to singing it’s praises but sadly I cannot. Meh!

I think I might just be in love with your website, I’ve been looking for a blog that caters just for scrub for ages and I’m more than happy that I’ve found one.

I really wanted to get this scrub and I haven’t found any other reviews on it, what you mentioned really puts me off. I had a scrub from Tesco which started to smell a bit funny after five minutes on the face so I used it in the shower.

Well Contrary to your mail, I have had a great experience with this product. I use to use the Visibly Even which is actually on the American Market and when I visited London this summer, purchased the grapefruit Visibly clear when I run out of mine. Initially it doesnt seem to penetrate the skin and clear up the pores but once you continually use it and your skin gets use to the product you find that your face clears up quicker. I am actually seeing a lot of improvement on my skin, the black heads are gone and there are no patches of different colors. Maybe you should try it continually for about a week or 2.

Thanks for your comments Mona, I’m glad you had a great experience with this product. I still stand by what I said though, I personally don’t think it’s worth buying!

I completely agree with you here. I bought both the scrub and face wash because one of my favourite smells is grapefruit (even though I don’t like the taste lol!) and I was bitterly dissapointed. I didn’t end up using it all I hated it that much. The smell was horrible and chemically, and I found it made my skin worse rather than better! Won’t be using again.

This is what happens when you get suckered in by those offers from Boots!

I totally agree! I used this product twice & it actually did the oppisite, instead of clearing breakouts it gave me a HUGE breakout. And also made my skin really really dry. Whilst washing my face with it, it started to form a cat urine smell to it & also my face did not feel claen afterwards. Very very disapointed.. :(

Hey Sarah – Cat urine is a great description! This is why I returned it, I don’t want skincare that smells like a litter tray. I used to really like Neutrogena but I’ve totally gone off them!

Thanks for your comment hun x

I’m glad I’m not the only one!!! I used it and thought it reeked like cat pee… but then read a whole bunch of reviews about how great it smelt and thought maybe it was just me…until I found this :)

I got it in my eye and it was awful, never been in so much pain. I’ve only used it twice but I think I’ll stop!

It truly is awful isn’t it!!! You are right it has a proper stench! I know some people say Lush smells bad but really they need to get a whiff of this. I suggest you stop using it my dear – can you return it to the shop you bought it from?
:D
