Cath Kidston

A few weeks before Christmas I went on mission for über beauty blogger Charlotte aka Lipglossiping for The Balm ‘Hot Mama’ blusher. I mentioned that I saw some at my TK Maxx here in Nottingham and I foraged through the rubble that is the ‘beauty’ section at the Maxx and found one in good condition. As I stood in the queue I felt like Indiana Jones when he obtains one of his prized artifacts. I even expected the walls to start crumbling as I sashayed out of the store with my purchase because it usually sells for £15 and I got it for £5.99. I’m really glad that Charlotte liked it.

So after finding my prized item I had a mooch around the Maxx to see what other goodies I could unearth. The bath and body section of the Maxx is usually full of names I’ve never heard of but I noticed some Cath Kidston ‘Cath Kids’ range. There was the usual baby wash stuff but I couldn’t help but find fascination with the Bottom Balm. Now I don’t have children and I’ve really never been around babies as I’m an only child. I know children’s ranges usually have nappy or diaper creams but because this just said bottom balm I thought why couldn’t I use it?

Hopefully you can see from the picture above that this balm is solid. If you hold it upside down it doesn’t come out of the tub. Now this says that it contains no parabens, sulphates or colours and has an allergen free fragrance. However it does contain mineral oil as the first ingredient which I’m quite surprised about. I didn’t think that would be an ideal thing to put on delicate babies skin. I know when I’ve used products that are too mineral oil heavy my skin can get really blotchy. This also contains palm oil, beeswax and petrolatum.

You can see in the above picture that this balm is very thick. The aloe scent is lovely and fresh and not at all baby powderish. I used it on my backside but also put some on my legs and feet too. I found it too thick to use as an all over moisturiser. During the day I realised that my knickers had cemented themselves to my bum so maybe this really isn’t for grown-ups but I can assure you that my backside is very soft! On the practical side it’s also good for the usual dry areas like feet, elbows, and calves. I would keep this in my drawer at work but they already laugh at me with all the other things I have so I’ll keep it at home just in case my tush suddenly becomes dry and scaly. I got this from the Maxx for £3.99 and it doesn’t look like it’s available on the CK website anymore so if you are interested you may have trawl your local TK to find it.

I bet Christmas at the Kidston residence is full old fashioned holiday cheer. I want to celebrate the 25th of December with these lovely things.
