Bliss

I’ve had some bad luck with colds and flu in the last 4 months and I’m currently nursing another episode of what feels like the plague. When I had the flu in January I felt like I was hit by a bus backwards and forwards, my muscles ached and no matter how times I showered I just didn’t feel clean. I really wish I would have had this Bliss Hot Salt Scrub with me at the time because it makes such a difference to my well-being.

It’s so thick you can stand a scrub spatula in it!

You can use this on dry or wet skin depending on how much friction you are after but it is recommended that you use it on dry skin to get the best results. Because the scrub is suspended in a thick gel it’s easy to work around the body, and it holds its shape as you apply it – so there isn’t a runny mess. The sea salt will melt when it gets wet so this rinses very clean and you don’t have to worry about scrubby bits that end up clinging in the strangest places (if you know what I mean).

When you first open the lid you are hit with slightly medicinal, yet reassuring scent of the Eucalyptus and Rosemary. I think the Eucalyptus essential oil is pivotal in making this scrub work because it has an amazing antiseptic and sanitising effect on the skin. Since I’ve been ill I’ve been working this this into my chest and neck area and with the steam from the shower it feels like a treatment that should be available on the NHS. It really has helped to clear my head and chest plus the warming sensation of the salts gives this a real comfort factor. After using this my skin feels so clean, smooth and free of germs. I’ve not used body lotion afterwards as I feel like I don’t need it but in the winter I probably would just to keep the comfort feeling going.

This would also be great for anyone who does sport or goes to the gym. James used this a few times after his workouts and he said it felt really soothing on his legs and arms after lifting weights. My only moan and sorry to sound repetitive is this has the dreaded foil lid. Because this has a gel like texture, Bliss probably think it would slosh around while being transported so I will let it go. This is available at Feelunique for £28.60 including delivery.

FAT. Along with all the other obvious (and worse) swear words that you normally hear in the school yard the word ‘Fat’ can stop you in your tracks. You don’t care if someone calls your mum a drunk or if someone accuses your dad of being a dole scrounger, but if someone calls you fat you run for the hills and swear you’ll only eat 3 grapes tomorrow instead of your usual 6. In previous centuries being well rounded was a sign of wealth. I was born in the wrong century! With all this in mind I was quite intrigued by Bliss’ name for their latest body scrub which is soo un PC for 2009. The jar tells me I can scrub away my visible ‘blub’. Having been extremely happy with my Bliss Blood Orange and White Pepper Sugar Scrub I hoped this would follow suit.

This product is quite different. The smell reminds me of  toothpaste which I wasn’t keen on. The scrub itself, which contains 60% Himalayan Pink Salt has a sticky tacky texture. I was expecting it to glide on but it is quite concentrated. You also need to stir it up as the oil pools at the top. The scrubbing action is okay but I felt something was amiss. I decided to try my Fat Girl scrub again on my blubby left leg and the Blood Orange Scrub on my blubby right leg to compare.  Both legs looked well scrubbed when everything finally rinsed off but I preferred the feeling and texture of the Blood Orange Scrub to the Fat Girl scrub.  I personally think I can get the same results from the Blood Orange scrub. I would say this is a moderate scrub due to the oil content prevented me from getting a more vigorous pelting.

This product is a further extension to the Bliss war on cellulite range which includes Fat Girl Slim and Fat Girl Sleep.

Benefits

  • Helps reduce stagnant fluids that contribute to cellulite
  • Cooling sensation lasts afterwards
  • Paraben Free

Drawbacks

  • Oily texture
  • Tub is smaller than other Bliss scrub products

Verdict

Packaging too pink, don’t like the texture or smell. Not one of my faves. I would also hide this in the bathroom cabinet from any snooping frenemies or dates. It’s the 2009 equivalent of someone finding your girdle and support hose!

This is available at Boots and HQhair!

Bliss is an unpretentious cheeky and cheerful spa brand of super products. The original Bliss Spa opened in 1996 in Soho New York and they pride themselves on being a place for real women/men who want help to look and feel their best.

Application

This lovely product has a subtle but obvious smell of blood oranges hence the name. I would say this is a moderate scrub as the bits are small but you do get a fantastic polish from the grapefruit coloured grains. If you want a more robust wash I would apply this to dry skin before you turn on the shower. The fantastic thing about this scrub is it dissolves easily and doesn’t leave loads of crud in the tub. After you use it your other half won’t have to risk their death from slipping in a tub full of oily residue.

Contains:

Sucrose, Sunflower Seed Oil, Orange fruit extract, Pepper Seed

The Good Stuff

  • Smells great without being overpowering
  • Skin feels super clean and polished afterwards
  • No need for lotion afterwards
  • Non greasy/oil

The Bad Stuff

  • Maybe too price for some
  • The tub could do with being a litter bigger

Verdict

I will definitely be buying this again!
