Battle of the shower oils – Le Petit Marseillais vs. Champneys

My first memory of using shower oils was back in high school. If you were trying to save money you used Johnson’s Baby Oil, if you were posh you used Neutrogena Sesame Body Oil. I tried Neutrogena body oil once but my dad said it clogged up the drains and made a ring around the tub so I wasn’t allowed to use it again!

I was given the Champneys Spa Indulgence Oil and bought the Le Petit Marseillais one at Monoprix in Paris. I’ve used both of these on wet skin for a few weeks after showering. I believe you can use them on dry skin too.

Bottle

LPM – This is a plastic bottle with a pump, great if you drop it.

Champneys – Although this is pretty, it’s in a glass bottle which isn’t very practical.

Scent

LPM – This is similar to the other items in the Karite (Shea Butter) range, nutty and creamy.

Champneys – This is scented with Tahitian Monoi oil so has a warm floral fragrance.

Application

LPM – (left) The pump makes it easy to dispense and you get a decent amount.

Champneys – (right) This has a plastic top with a hole like a salad dressing shaker so it’s easy to control how much comes out.

Price

LPM – I bought this without looking at the price but I’m sure it was under £10 for 150ml.

Champneys – £8 for 50ml.

Overall thoughts

LPM – I was tempted by the Le Petit Marseillais one as it looked very pretty in the bottle and I thought the oil would be purple but as you can see above it’s just the bottle that is coloured. I thought it was going to be heavy like an olive oil but it’s very light and easy to blot the excess off your skin. There isn’t any scent that lingers so you could put on perfume after using this.

Champneys – As I mentioned above, this was bought for me and I assumed that the oil would also come out purple but again it’s only the bottle that is coloured. I like the shaker style application and because the oil is light it doesn’t go everywhere and is also very easy to blot from your skin when you get out of the shower. What I really loved is that I could smell myself all day, the Tahitian Monoi oil makes your skin smell quite luxurious. This can also be used as a massage oil but I doubt James would want to smell like Tahiti and I know asking him to use it on me would never happen!

I actually like both of these oils for different reasons but if I was going to re-purchase it would be…..Champneys! Surprised? Me too, as much as I love my LPM goodies the Champneys oil body is that little bit more spesh. What body oils do you love?

I haven’t been using body oils lately..the last one I used was by REN. I think it’s got rose essential oils in it and it was VERY expensive..I thought it was great, loved the scent but was just too expensive. I’ve also used Nivea body oil but didn’t quite like using it..probably too oily and wasn’t easily absorbed by the skin.

Honestly, I get bored everytime i try body oil..I’m not sure why..But I’m going to get a jasmine scented massage oil..as my guy is giving me a massage soon :)

I know what you mean about the boredom. I struggle with body oils because I only take showers and they aren’t a quick thing to use. If it weren’t for the way these were dispensed I would struggle to use them as I don’t do baths.

Lucky you for your fella giving you a massage – after James read the post he laughed at the thought of giving me one meh! :D
