This is available at Look Fantasic!

Dr Lewinn is a plastic surgeon so who better to trust with your skincare needs. No doubt he’s seen the worst of what time, sun, and smoking can do to our skin. The range offers the usual cleanser, toner, moisturiser and specialist skin care. However the one item that stuck out of the range was the Hand Polish because as Dr. Lewinn has so rightly reminded us, our hands give our age away no matter how wonderful the skin on our face looks.

How to use

Dr Lewinn is my new best friend! I love this man! This hand polish is what I have been looking for in a scrub. When I opened it the smell of crushed oranges hit me. It literally smells like orange juice with bits mixed with sugar and it is gorgeous! It contains sugar and sea salt. The scrub action with this is brilliant, absolutely brilliant. It is definitely a hardcore scrub. I furiously scrubbed my hands with this lovely fusion of oils, salt and sugar and it rinsed away beautifully. Afterwards my hands felt plumped, pumped and ready to be shown off. They were incredibly soft which is no doubt down to the Macadamia Nut Oil. My only complaint about this product is that it doesn’t come in a 500g tub!

The Good

  • Hardcore no messing about exfoliation
  • Smells delicious
  • Water soluble formula rinses easily away
  • Did I mention I love Dr. Lewinn?

The Bad

  • I don’t know where to buy it in bulk but I will let you know
  • If you don’t like hardcore scrubs then don’t use this product

Verdict

I would like to cordially invite you to the wedding of skinsrubs and Dr. Lewinn’s Revitalising Hand Polish. Please RSVP.

Annabella’s Review – Mario Badescu Strawberry Face Scrub 113g

This is available at HQhair! /

Mario Badescu Skin Care always seems to be linked celebrities. As you know this is not always the best way to judge a beauty product. The website boasts an impressive roster of tinseltown’s finest. This is not why I bought this though, I was enticed by the name of the product picturing crushed strawberries in a jar.

Well I was sort of right about the idea I had in my head. It is a jar of strawberry seeds floating in what looks and smells  like strawberry yoghurt. I haven’t missed the fact that it says ‘non-abrasive’ scrub so I wasn’t expecting it to be like sandpaper. The texture is lovely and creamy and it smells wonderful. The strawberry seeds would offer great exfoliation but there isn’t enough of them to make a difference (to me anyway). This face scrub is a concoction conundrum. If it were just a creamy gentle cleanser then it would work but add the strawberry seeds and it just becomes annoying. I have a feeling this is intended for individuals who have really dry skin and those who cannot tolerate too much exfoliation.

Good Stuff

  • Smells and feels like strawberry yoghurt
  • Non-irritating

Bad Stuff

  • Won’t be rough enough for some
  • Difficult to rinse off need toner afterwards

Verdict

This one isn’t for me but someone with really dry skin would probably benefit from the cooling sensation of the creamy texture and the gentle action of the strawberry seeds.

Annabella’s Review – Dead Sea Spa Magik Mud Mask 75ml

1

Posted on : 25-07-2009 | By : Annabella | In : Annabella's Review, Dead Sea Spa Magik, Face Masks

This is available at Holland & Barrett.

Having used Dead Sea Spa Magik Mild Exfoliant with fantastic results I thought I should give the mud mask a go. The tube looks exactly the same as the mild exfoliant so again it won’t win any style awards but I don’t think this is what this brand is about.

How to use

I used the mild exfoliant first to clean my face before application. The mask itself is quite thick so you don’t need much and it does properly cover your face with black mud. I left it on longer than the recommended 5 minutes. It does take some effort to get off. I had to splash my face with water and also use a wet face cloth to remove the residue around my hair line.

My skin felt quite smooth and clean after I dried it and the mask definitely mops up the oil. I think if you use it 2-3 times a week you will see the benefit. My skin was much clearer and less blotchy. If you have combination skin or just an oily T-zone it would be ideal just to put on those areas. The smell is sea salty so it makes it feel like a real spa treatment.

Annabella’s Review – This Works Turbo Balm 10g

Posted on : 19-07-2009 | By : Annabella | In : Annabella's Review, Lip Balms, This Works

This is available at Zuneta!

Kathy Phillips launched This Works in 2004 and her aromatherapy products have won many accolades since their entrance to the beauty world. She has contributed to and edited what seems like every high end beauty publication out there.  Her list of credentials is a mile long and she’s won several awards for her contribution to the beauty industry. With this in my mind I thought my review for this much hyped product would be easy to write.

The balm has a faint smell of rose which is pleasant. The box and packaging are well made so it felt like I was getting quite a treat. Well what can I say. I don’t get it. I used it as recommended for two weeks on my lips, elbows, and any other dry patches I could find no matter how microscopic and nothing amazing happened. Maybe you need to have really really dry lips and other bits to notice a difference.  Maybe because it’s an aromatherapy product it’s not supposed to hit you over the head with excitement. Maybe I’m not This Works target audience. While this tiny pot looks good, travels well and smells nice I can’t over the fact that it appeared to do nothing for me. Having said this it will not put me off reviewing other This Works products.

The Good

  • Nice packaging
  • Delicate fragrance
  • 100% natural ingredients

The Bad

  • Quite pricey

Verdict

I don’t think I’m Turbo Balm’s intended client. However as this is an aromatherapy product it will no doubt be beneficial for others.

Annabella’s Review – Korres Basil Lemon Shower Gel 250ml

Posted on : 05-07-2009 | By : Annabella | In : Annabella's Review, Korres, Shower Gels

This is available at Look Fantastic!

One of my best friends is engaged to a lovely Greek man, and every time she goes to Greece she tells me that Korres products are freely available and sold everywhere. All I picture when she says that is the episode of The Simpsons where Homer fantasises about the land of chocolate and skips merrily through sweet covered streets eating whatever he wants. Imagine Korres products on every corner………mmm Korres!

Korres have created their range with Greek herbs and flowers that have no doubt been used since ancient times. You can’t deny that these formulations haven’t been tried and tested.

Application

This shower gel is divine. Why? Well for one, it’s not that expensive but it is quite luxurious. The scent reminds me of the summers spent at my grandmothers house. You don’t need a large amount to get a good lather which is always a good sign of a high quality product. Afterwards my skin feels soft and super clean. I could quite happily pay more money for this shower gel and not blink an eye.

What I love

  • The scent is gorgeous
  • Skin feels soft without the use of body lotion
  • It’s a steal for the price
  • Mineral Oil and Paraben Free

What I don’t love

  • What’s not to love?

Verdict

We love it and will definitely buy it again as it’s especially good for the summer.

Annabella’s Review – The Lip Scrub by Sara Happ Cinnamon Sugar 30g

Posted on : 04-07-2009 | By : Annabella | In : Annabella's Review, Lip Scrubs, Sara Happ

This is available at HQhair!

Okay before I start this review can I just say that I am sooo jealous that I didn’t think of this product first. This truly is an innovation. Having said that if I would have created it I doubt it would have ever gone past my own bathroom so well done Sara Happ for doing it first.

How to use

All you need is a little dab to thoroughly massage your  lips to softness. This is a moderate to hardcore lip scrub so if your lips are really chapped or have open cuts I would not use this until they have healed. I wouldn’t recommend it to someone who is just going to buy it because it’s cute you have to use it to appreciate it’s ability. Sara recommends removing it with tissue but I found this difficult so I used a wet paper towel instead and it came off just fine. My lips felt plumped and full afterwards as well as being soft.

Also comes in other ‘flavours’ Almond Creme, Peppermint, Vanilla Bean, Brown Sugar, and Cocoa.

Annabella’s Review – Burt’s Bees Citrus Facial Scrub 36g

Posted on : 04-07-2009 | By : Annabella | In : Annabella's Review, Burt's Bees, Face Scrubs

This is available from HQhair!

I’ve been using Burt’s Bees products for several years now and even though they have become more global they haven’t lost their ‘down home’ roots or their passion for the environment and ethical business practices. They regularly support community projects and work tirelessly on new packaging innovations to ease the stress on our natural resources.

Application

Not many cleansers come little glass pots these days but this one does and it makes you feel like you have a treasure from days gone by. When you twist open the metal lid the smell hits you, it’s not citrus but a nutmegy fruit cake smell. The scrub itself is pretty much solid in the jar so you need to wet you fingers a little to get some out. It’s not a harsh scrub I would say mild to moderate. It’s best to make some in a little paste before you put it on otherwise it will not move. I like to use this before I do a face masque as it exfoliates but doesn’t strip your skin. The small jar should last fairly long as you don’t need much to get a good wash. This would also travel well due to the size and doesn’t cost the earth.

Advantages

  • A little goes a long way
  • Scrummy smell makes you want to eat it
  • Gives a good scrub without being to harsh
  • Won’t break the bank

Disadvantages

  • A bit fiddly to get out of the jar
  • Glass jar might not be practical

Verdict

Burt and his bees are always winners in my book and this scrub is a lovely surprise.  If you care about the environment and want to look good at the same time then let Burt show you the way.

Annabella’s Review – Bliss Blood Orange & White Pepper Sugar Scrub 330g

3

Posted on : 04-07-2009 | By : Annabella | In : Annabella's Review, Bliss, Body Scrubs

This is available at Boots and HQhair!

Bliss is an unpretentious cheeky and cheerful spa brand of super products. The original Bliss Spa opened in 1996 in Soho New York and they pride themselves on being a place for real women/men who want help to look and feel their best.

Application

This lovely product has a subtle but obvious smell of blood oranges hence the name. I would say this is a moderate scrub as the bits are small but you do get a fantastic polish from the grapefruit coloured grains. If you want a more robust wash I would apply this to dry skin before you turn on the shower. The fantastic thing about this scrub is it dissolves easily and doesn’t leave loads of crud in the tub. After you use it your other half won’t have to risk their death from slipping in a tub full of oily residue.

The Good Stuff

  • Smells great without being overpowering
  • Skin feels super clean and polished afterwards
  • No need for lotion afterwards
  • Non greasy/oil

The Bad Stuff

  • Maybe too price for some
  • The tub could do with being a litter bigger

Verdict

I will definitely be buying this again!
